Define latency

Here are my excuses for not posting in a month:

1. End of year was surprisingly busy.. Then ended with a massively dreadful cold (it’s still lingering!!!)
2. My family and I took a vacation… I know.. “the nerve”.

Hopefully I’ll have some time to get things written down again soon.

Bluetoothy

Intriguing: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/26377

I’ll elaborate later on why I’m interested in this.

A major aspect of a couple of my projects is the ability to switch audio signals.  In theory (and with enough hardware), I could build an Nx1 audio switch with N inputs.  I’ve struggled with the whole “switch” part of it, until I found this:

http://tech.thetonegod.com/switches/switches.html

Not for the faint of heart — but it discusses the use of the 4066 chip (of which I have at least 8 — w00t!) as an audio switch for guitar effects — wouldn’t take much of a stretch of the imagination to make the designs on this page fit my projects.

In the words of Eric Cartman: “Kick ass…”.

On the go

One of the things that has got me wanting to write/blog is having a device with me that is always connected. This is also the main motivator for wanting to have the crappy photos blog I mentioned.

This is me testing things out from the phone.

Again.. as I discovered, anyone who followed by blog about a year ago is getting a magical resurgence in their RSS feeds — the URL’s are apparently identical (which makes sense).  It’s baaaaaaack!  Maybe you hadn’t even noticed that it left.

Hello again, World! About 3 months ago I decided enough is enough with the state of my blog and it was met with a rather large explosion (kaboom). I went into blog-exile for a while trying to figure out what I wanted my blog to be and how to avoid what it had become (the “last post” on my previous blog can be found here). I never arrived at a concrete solution but it was clear to me that I have many interests and the lines between some of them were firm enough that they should have their own space. The short version is that I will have many homes for many things.  Let me tell you where I’m at TODAY.

  1. This is my blog (duh). I wanted some sort of bad-ass name that encapsulated the spirit of my contribution to the interwebs here: programming, gadgets, & arduino.. and came up with none.  The only thing I felt strongly about was that pixelated fire at the top (is it still there?).  So… it’s called the blog.  FML.
  2. This blog will (mostly) focus on those things I just mentioned — programming, gadgets, hardware programming with arduino (and probably netduino/FEZ/insert-32-bit-platform-here at some point), and a fortunate bleed-through into education since I end up teaching much of these topics.
  3. My project reference pages (link at top) are being handled with a wiki.  While I have no need to retain page revisions, I couldn’t get the blog to play nice for what I wanted to use it for. That branch is alive and well (albeit sparsely populated at this point).
  4. I will have a teacher/education blog somewhere, although I have yet to decide if I even want it linked through here.  This has always been my dilemma — separating personal from professional — the dilemma being that they are starting to mesh and the delineation is not as clear as it once was.
  5. I’ve always wanted to have a sort of “crappy photography blog” and with the advent of stupid apps like hipstamatic and instagram, my iPhone fits the bill for this — that part of my online existence does not exist yet (the pictures do.. they just need a home).  I will post an update here once that’s up.  I bet it’ll have a link at the top too — lucky!

That’s where I’m at TODAY. Anyone who knows me will tell you that TOMORROW this may all change (I hope not!).

Note: the first comment was left while this next tidbit was still in place :)
